There were several wizarding shops that sold robes in Great Britain, such as Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions and Twilfitt and Tattings in Diagon Alley, and Gladrags Wizardwear in the village of Hogsmeade. Some wore highly decorated robes, such as Albus Dumbledore, but most wore simpler robes, such as Severus Snape and Minerva McGonagall, whose robes were generally plain in style and colour. The robes worn by Hogwarts Professors were more academic in nature and varied in colour. Students were expected to be wearing their robes by the time they arrived at Hogsmeade station and might have been docked house points if they were not by Professors. Hogwarts students typically wore Muggle clothing when travelling to catch the Hogwarts Express and then changed into robes. For the Yule Ball in 1994 (part of the traditional calendar of the Triwizard Tournament, which took place that year), students were required to wear dress robes, which were a more formal version of standard robes. Hogwarts students were required to own three sets of standard black robes as part of their uniform when they attended classes, ate meals and studied in the Great Hall.
